Hybrid: Steop 3 Analysis

Filed under: Assignments — Angela @ 3:07 am

It’s snowing outside again with a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius. *Sigh* I miss my favourite season, summer. I like summer because there’s lots of sunshine, happiness, and warmth, that’s why I decided to make a hybrid of two lively organisms that I believe represent sunshine, happiness, warmth, and reminds me of summer. The two organisms I’ve chosen are puppy and dandelion. I named this hybrid a “Dandepup”.

Creating this hybrid was not as difficult because I have already had this idea in my mind and the basic structure planned out. The pup I have chosen is a Maltese that’s running through the field carelessly. It’s a good representation of happiness, and warmth. The dandelion had a few seeds blowing off, gives a feeling of offspring, hope, and sunshine. Since these two ideas are so similar, I have combined the puppy’s head with the main body of the dandelion.

I used Magnetic lasso to cut the puppy’s head off and pasted it on the dandelion document. Of course, the result was not perfect, so then I used brush and feathering to make the puppy’s head look more natural on the dandelion. I also used the smudge tool on little brush marks to create little flares amongst the flying seeds so that it creates a good rhythm. To make the image look even more outstanding than it is, I added an adjustment layer with brightness +26 and contrast +36.

This assignment was not difficult for me because, as I’ve mentioned above, I had the blueprint of this hybrid from a long time ago and because they were some of my favourite things. The challenges that I have faced are having trouble choosing the right photos to enhance and making the hybrid look more natural. Overall, I find this assignment successful because the combination is very subtle, the image turned out great, and this hybrid suits my taste.

  1. Haha the Dandepup is really cute and such an interesting idea. I remember seeing you working on the picture in class but I never thought of such a hybrid!
    Very nice job! πŸ˜€
